SSL Certificates and Lower Prices on Registrations
We've been hard at work here and have some exciting announcements.
First of all we've added support for adding SSL certificates to domains. For any domain, whether it is hosted or registered with DNSimple, go to the domain's Manage page and you'll see a section dedicated to SSL Certificates.
Follow the buy an SSL certificate link, enter the name. Leave the name blank to purchase a certificate for the second-level domain, such as domain.com or fill in something like www to purchase a certificate for a subdomain. The name on the certificate must match the subdomain where you will use the certificate.
Select a contact that will be associated with the certificate or add a new contact if you do not yet have a contact in your account. We can even generate your private key and certificate signing request (CSR) for you if you'd like, or if you want to use your own CSR you're welcome to do that as well.
Once you've purchased the certificate you'll need to select one of the responsible email addresses from the available list and they will receive the email required to approve the certificate issuance and complete the process. Once they've approved the certificate you'll receive an email from us explaining how to download your certificate. You can always go back and check on the status of your certificate, download your private key if you generated with us, and download the certificate from the DNSimple site once it has been issued.
Like all things at DNSimple we've tried hard to make the SSL process as easy and painless as possible. If you have any suggestions on how to make it better please let us know.
Lower Registration Prices
The other big news is that we've lowered our prices on some of the generic top-level domains like com, net, org, biz, info and name. Domains with these extensions, along with .us, are now available for $14 per year. Additionally we've lowered the price for transferring from GoDaddy to DNSimple to only $8.50.
To all of our customers, thank you for continuing to use DNSimple as your domain registrar and DNS provider. If you're just considering DNSimple we hope that you'll be happy with what you see and give us a try. All new accounts come with a 30-day free trial that can be canceled at any time.
As always, please contact us with any questions you have - we're here to help.
I break things so Simone continues to have plenty to do. I occasionally have useful ideas, like building a domain and DNS provider that doesn't suck.
We think domain management should be easy.
That's why we continue building DNSimple.
What's in a DNS response?
DNS queries and responses fly across the internet all day, but we don't often take a look at what's inside of them. Today we do.
