We're moving our write enabled Postgres cluster to a new data center. As such we've scheduled a one hour maintenance window starting at 8am Pacific time (1500 UTC) on Sunday, June 30. The DNSimple app and API will be unavailable for roughly twenty minutes.

By popular demand, we added a confirmation dialog when trying to delete a record from the advanced editor.

Incident Report - DNS Outage due to DDoS Attack (June 3rd, 2013)

Several days ago we detected the start of a DNS amplification attack. This attack was nothing special until the morning of June 3rd when it changed in a manner causing an outage for DNSimple name servers.

Incident Report - DNS changes blocked (May 20th, 2013)

On May 20th, beginning at about 11:30am Pacific time (18:30 UTC), we experienced a partial service outage. A component failure blocked our customers from updating their DNS records.

Application maintenance window (May 15)

We have scheduled a one hour maintenance window beginning at 6pm Pacific time on Wednesday, May 15 (Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 0100 UTC). This will be used to update network routers at each of DNSimple's data centers to increase overall availability. We expect the DNSimple application and redirection service to each be unavailable for less than five minutes. Name service will not be affected. We apologies for any inconveniences this may cause our customers.

Heroku Service - Specify Your App Name

Today we deployed a change to how the Heroku one-click service works. Heroku recently released their European region, and with that change they deprecated the "proxy" subdomain for Heroku apps. To make DNSimple's one-click service compatible with this change, we now require your Heroku app name, as it appears in your herokuapp.com subdomain. When you add Heroku just enter your app name part of the herokuapp.com domain and you should have an ALIAS for your apex domain and a CNAME for "www". You can always add or change these later.

Post-mortem for DNS outage on July 23rd

From approximately 09:35 UTC until 10:00 UTC, July 23rd 2012, DNSimple experienced an outage across four name servers. This outage appears to be the result of a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. Due to the attack we were unable to respond to DNS requests in a timely fashion. Our job processing queue simultaneously stopped due to a failed deployment. The backup in the job queues resulted in new subscriptions timing out and impacted customers updating DNS records.

DNSimple has a new Knowledge Base, available today. The knowledge base has questions and answers about DNS, domains, SSL certificates and more. We've tried to do our best to provide useful answers that can help beyond DNSimple.

A new deployment of DNSimple has gone live, bringing with it the ability to edit records. Previously you had to delete the old record and add a new one in order to make a change, now you can simply click the Edit link and make the changes you need, save the record and the DNS servers will be updated.
