Introducing Okta Single Sign-On
Last year, DNSimple released our implementation of Google as a Single Sign-On (SSO) provider. Many of you have used the feature to log in via your Google Workspace, as well as linking your social/personal account.
Today, we're following up on that success with Okta — another widely-used, highly-requested SSO provider. Okta is a secure, reliable, enterprise-grade identity service that simplifies the process for companies to secure logins for employees through SSO.
Our Okta Single Sign-On integration will improve employee on-boarding for account administrators and streamline the login process for all linked users. This feature is available to all DNSimple Teams and Enterprise customers.
Let's talk about why this is important and how you can use our Okta SSO for your organization.
Simplifying credential management
Single Sign-On allows users to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials — simplifying password and username management for enterprises, smaller organizations, and individuals.
SSO makes it easier for your team to access DNSimple and reduces the overhead of managing team members. It centralizes your organization's identity security so you can manage risk at scale. Access is limited to users within your corporate domain and helps protect important domain names and DNS configurations.
Our SSO implementation integrates with our existing Domain Access Control features, so you can manage access for each team member on a per-domain basis. It also reduces the burden of managing each team member in your DNSimple account, while still providing strong control over who can or can't join.
Enabling Okta Single Sign-On
Using our Okta SSO integration, administrators can set the access for their organization's DNSimple account from within Okta. All changes are synchronized in real-time – including adding members, removing members, and synchronizing log-outs.
To link your Okta organization to your DNSimple account:
- Go to the Account page, and click the
Single Sign-On
tab. - Clicking
Add
next to the Okta SSO provider takes you to Okta to authorize the organization. - Okta will show you what access DNSimple is requesting.
- Okta SSO is enabled on the account.
- Repeat this process for each account where you want Okta SSO enabled.
For more details, including how to link and unlink users from your Okta account, visit our Okta SSO support article.
Once Okta SSO is enabled on an account, any member assigned to the Okta application can log in to DNSimple. When someone signs in for the first time, an email is sent to the account owner indicating a new team member has signed in to the account. Anyone with full access can configure access roles for the new team member. If a team member exists in the account prior to connecting, they will need to log in first and link their Okta identity.
Simple, secure domain management
If you already have a DNSimple account on our Teams or Enterprise tier, and Okta for your organization, you can start using Okta as your identity provider today. Right now we support SSO for Okta and Google, but we're considering adding additional providers in the future. Have one you want to see? Let us know
